TOA VACA DAM

 

 

LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION


This dam is located in the municipality of Villalba, like two miles to the south of that town, immediately waters above of Guayabal Reservoir. Highway PR-150, between Villalba and Coamo, happens over the structure. The capacity of dam of this dam is of 55,888 acre-feet at the level of 541 feet SNPM. It has approximately four miles in length and 150 feet of maximum depth. It has a drainage area of only 21.94 miles square.

 

USE AND HISTORY

The construction of Toa Vaca Dam was completed in the 1972. Same the most important link of a development of multiple uses for the optimal use of waters of run-off of the  Coamo, Toa Vaca and Jacaguas rivers in the south and those of the heights of the rivers Manatí and Arecibo, to the north of the Divisoria. Due to that, this dam and dams was constructed with capacity much greater than the necessary one for its drainage area. From his construction in the 1972, never it has arrived at the overflowing level (541 feet). Recently it reached the highest elevation to than it has never arrived (530 feet).
