PRIETO DAM

 

 

LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION


This dam, from medium height, derives waters of the Prieto River towards Yauco I plant for hydroelectric generation. Water only dams up during the decreased periods substantial of the river that exceed the capacity of the derivation tunnel. It is located to eight miles to the north of Yauco. Highway PR-128 is arrived at the dam, following, from that town. The dam has a capacity of 600 acre- feet. Dam has 98 feet of structural height. The drainage area rains that are derived by dam are of 9.6 miles square.

 

USE AND HISTORY

This concrete dam was finished in 1955.  The construction and design was in charges for Engineering and Construction Department, below PREPA.
