MATRULLAS DAM

 

 

LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION


This dam is located in the central section of the island, like five miles to the north of Villalba. The Lake is formed by a land dam of 120 feet of stop on the Matrullas River. Its normal capacity is of 3.005 acre-feet with a surface of 77 acres at the overflowing level (2,415 feet). It has a maximum depth approximated of 90 feet and one mile in length.

 

USE AND HISTORY

The dam was finished in the 1934 and comprises of the hydroelectric system of Toro Negro. The waters of this dam are derived through channels and tunnels until being used for generation in the Toro Negro Plant I in Villalba and pass thus to the Guayabal dam for agricultural irrigation. It receives his waters of an area of 4.42 miles square.
