GUINEO DAM

 

 

LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION


This dam is located in the central part of Puerto Rico, like three miles to the north of Villalba. It is arrived at the same one by highway PR-149. The dam and reservoir are hidden in the vegetation of the area. The Lake is formed by a dam of jetty of 125 feet of stop on Toro Negro River. It has a concrete wall from his impermeability base and has been being maintained by slopes of earth and rock in both sides. The Lake has a capacity of 1,528 acre feet to its normal elevation of 2,960 feet on the level of the sea. Its maximum depth is of some 80 feet and measures average mile of length. It receives his waters of an area of pick up of 1.57 miles square.

 

USE AND HISTORY

Guinea Dam was constructed by the old use of the Fluvial Sources between the 1928 until the 1931. It continues being operated by the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority. Form leaves from the hydroelectric system of Black Toro to soon generate in the plant Toro Negro 2 and in the plant Toro Negro 1. Their waters pass thru to the Guayabal Lake to be used in the irrigation of the South Coast.
