GARZAS DAM

 

 

LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION


This dam is located like three miles to the Southeastern of the town of Adjuntas, following the highway PR-518 that happens over the dam. The Lake is formed by a land dam of 202 feet of height on the Vacas River. Acre has a capacity of 4,700 feet and one surface of 106 acres at the level of the Drain (2.415 feet on the level of the sea). It has like two miles in approximately 150 length and feet of maximum depth. Its area of pick up is of 6.25 miles square.

 

USE AND HISTORY

The earth dam that forms the dam finished constructing in the 1943 under the auspices of Puerto Rico Reconstruction Administration (PRRA) and soon was transferred to the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority. Their waters happen through a tunnel towards two located hydroelectric plants in the municipality of Peñuelas and soon they are used for town and industrial consumption in Ponce and Peñuelas.
