DOS BOCAS DAM

 
Represa Dos Bocas LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION

This dam this located between Utuado and Arecibo. The Lake is formed by a concrete dam of 188 feet of height, constructed in the intersection of the Arecibo and Caonillas Rivers, like a ten miles to the Southeastern of the City of Arecibo. Also it receives waters of the Viví, Pellejas Rivers and of the Caonillas dam. Its normal capacity is of 30.420 acre feet and its normal surface is of 634 acres at the level of its drain (elevation 295 feet on the level of the sea). It has approximately five miles in length and one maximum depth of 80 feet.

 

USE AND HISTORY

The Dos Bocas Dam was constructed between the 1940 at 1942 by Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority for hydroelectric generation. It has not had structural changes or improvements in the structures from his construction. Puerto Rico Sewer and Water Supply Authority uses water as this dam for the project of Superacueducto. The dam level is determined by the pluvial precipitation and the generation in the plants Dos Bocas and Caonillas. There is a service of boats and wharf provided by the government for the residents of the borders of the dam. The level of the lake is generally maintained the sufficiently high thing to allow the safe transit of these boats.
