COAMO DAM

 
LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION


This dam this located to around 26 miles to the East of Ponce and like a 5 miles to the South of Coamo. It is left closely together of the freeway the Americas and its exit towards Coamo. The Lake is formed by a concrete dam Ambursen type of 65 feet of height on the Coamo River.  Its original normal capacity was of 2,827 acre feet, but the accumulated sediments have diminished this capacity to some 80 acre feet (considered). Area of 66 miles square receives its waters of drainage.

 

USE AND HISTORY

The construction of the Coamo dam was completed in the 1914 under the Irrigation Service of Puerto Rico. The dam is not used at the moment for propose some of importance. All their conduits are covered and no used. Nevertheless, at the present time sediment with projections is removed to use approximately 800 acre-feet of the dam to replace water for use domestic servant.
