CIDRA DAM

 
LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION


This Dam is located in Bayamón district, two miles to the northwest of the Cidra town. It belongs to the Puerto Rico Sewer and Water Supply Authority (PRASA). The Lake forms a concrete dam of 105 feet of height on the Rio Bayamón. Have one drainage area of 8.6 miles square and one surface of 268 acres with the full lake until the level of the Drain (1,322 feet on the level of the sea). Its capacity is of 5,300 acre feet until that level. It has around three miles in length. Its maximum depth is of some 60 feet.

 

USE AND HISTORY

The Dam was constructed in the 1946 for the Municipality of San Juan and was transferred to PRASA. Their waters are used for consumption of metropolitan population.

  ACTUAL CONDITION
  The last inspection was in Cidra Dam in October 30, 2001. In that occasion were not indications of danger to the security of dam.
