The Cerrillos dam is located in the Cerrillos River, river
basin of the Bucaná River, approximately to 2.5 miles to
north of Ponce, Puerto Rico. The river basin is located in
South slope of the Island and has an area of drainage of
17.5 miles square. The dam was formed by a dock of stuffed
of rocks with a structural height of 323 feet.

The total capacity of the dam is of 47,900 acre feet, of
which 25,000 acre water feet are for use domestic servant
and 17,100 acre feet for flood control. The dam has
recreation area by means of several facilities to be
constructed late but around the dam. By authorization of the
Congress of the United States in the 1970 the Cerrillos dam
was designed and begging to be constructed in the 1983 by
the US Corp Engineers. The dam passes to hands of the
Natural and Environmental Resources Department of Puerto
Rico in 1998. |
